Cappers success story

Cappers: Helping Small Businesses Stay Secure in a Digital World

April 9, 2025

For small businesses, navigating the digital world can be a challenge—especially when it comes to compliance and security. That’s where Cappers steps in. Founded by Liza Karpilovski and Wesley Perevalov, Cappers started as a custom software development company focused on helping startups access affordable, tailored applications. Today, they have evolved into a Software as a Service (SaaS) company with a clear mission: making compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) seamless and accessible for small healthcare practices.

At the heart of this transition is their HIPPA-Compliant Form Builder, designed to help small clinics, dental offices, and wellness practitioners integrate secure digital forms into their websites. In an industry where compliance is critical yet complex, Cappers is removing barriers, ensuring that businesses can focus on patient care, not paperwork.

1. From Custom Software to Scalable Solutions

Cappers began as a custom software development company, helping small businesses build tailored applications without the hefty price tag of large corporations. Over time, the team recognized a greater need for scalable solutions and shifted toward a SaaS model. Their HIPPA form solution is now leading the charge in helping small business achieve HIPAA compliance without compromising brand identity or user experience.

2. Bridging the Compliance Gap for Small Businesses

Legislation requires all identifiable health information to be securely encrypted when stored and transmitted, making compliance essential for healthcare providers. While this has always been a requirement, the shift to digital patient intake during COVID-19 made it even more critical. Without proper encryption, small practices are vulnerable to reputational and legal risks if patient data is mishandled.

The problem? Most popular website builders, such as WordPress and Wix, are not inherently HIPAA-compliant. Small businesses without dedicated IT teams often rely on external web designers or administrators to navigate complex encryption protocols — an added burden on teams already managing daily operations.

That’s where Cappers steps in. Their HealthTech solution allows small healthcare providers to seamlessly integrate secure, HIPAA-compliant forms into their websites—no IT team or complex setup required. It works with popular platforms, helping clinics stay compliant without disrupting their website’s design or functionality. The solution streamlines operations and keeps the focus where it belongs: on patient care.

3. Scaling Up: Cappers’ Big Wins & Next Moves

Since developing a SaaS model, Cappers has quickly expanded its reach, transforming from a niche software provider into an industry leader in digital compliance for small practices.

A key breakthrough came two years ago when Cappers launched its WordPress plugin, establishing their HIPPA-Compliant Form Builder as one of the leading solutions for the largest website builder in North America. This milestone was instrumental in building their client base and providing small businesses with a cost-effective way to integrate secure forms.

The momentum continued in August 2024 when Cappers became the only HIPAA-compliant form builder available on Wix. With millions of businesses relying on Wix, this breakthrough opened the door for even more small healthcare practices to access simple, effective compliance solutions.

Now, Cappers is preparing for its next major leap—expanding their HIPAA-Compliant Form Builder to Webflow, one of the fastest-growing website builders in the industry. Once completed, this integration will bring seamless compliance tools to thousands of additional businesses, further cementing Cappers’ position as the go-to solution for small business compliance.

4. Finding a Home at TechPlace

Cappers' journey is deeply intertwined with TechPlace. When Liza first moved to Canada, she began searching for connections within her industry. A Google search led her to Innovation Factory (formerly known as Haltech Regional Innovational Centre), a TechPlace co-location partner that supports startups with advisory services, mentorship, and programming. There, she met mentors who encouraged her to pursue entrepreneurship instead of taking a traditional corporate job.

“The team at TechPlace gave me the confidence to pursue entrepreneurship,” she shares. “They were the first to say, ‘You don’t have to work for a big corporation—start something of your own.’ That support was invaluable.”

Through the extensive network of TechPlace and Haltech, Cappers was referred to their first software project — an early boost that helped shape them into the company they are today.

5. What’s Next for Cappers?

Looking ahead, Cappers is committed to further innovation in digital compliance. Their long-term vision? To become the go-to solution for small businesses navigating HIPAA regulations and eventually replace outdated fax-based systems in Canadian healthcare with a modern, paperless alternative.

For other entrepreneurs looking to make their mark, Liza offers simple but powerful advice:

“Be patient. Work hard. Success doesn’t happen overnight—but if you stay persistent, the results will come.”

With a clear mission and a growing impact, Cappers is proving that digital transformation isn’t just for large enterprises—small businesses deserve seamless, secure, and accessible solutions too.
